I was fired for having an inappopriate relationship with a coworker, can I still collect unemployment? |
I was dating a coworker about 4 months ago. One Saturday afternoon, when I was off the clock (I was a salaried employee), and in the office just catching up on paperwork we messed around in a storage closet. Yeah, stupid but exciting. At any rate, four months go by, that coworker and I hadn't talked since that incident, and he quits. The next day I get called in to HR and terminated. I have two more weeks of California unemployment and they want to do a phone interview. Can I collect unemployment insurance for being terminated for having "an inappropriate" relationship with a coworker? Also, I need to apply in Washington State, where I live now on May 5th. Hopefully that will get approved as well. Generally, when you are fired "for cause", you do not qualify for unemployment. But apply anyway. If your employer doesn't contest it, you may collect. I don't know if you can collect or not . However, I wonder, where is the nearest closet, and can I be the next one? |
