Is this considered to be racist? If you pick a doctor based on his name alone? |
For example your insurance company gives you a list of doctors you can go to, and thats all you know is their name and phone number. People now-a-days are so caught up on being politically correct, that they aren't even allowed to make decisions for themselves about what Doctor to chose. Not really but it is not a good way to pick a doctor! It is better to do research as to whether they have been sued for malpractice and what their area of specialty is. No...I agree, it's based on race, not names. Though I do know that women will pick doctors based on there names...like a Jill instead of John. That's just because some women are more comfortable with a woman as a doctor then a man. Or maybe some will pick Juan Castro because they speak spanish and think that this doctor might as well. But that's a culture thing, not race. i guess it certainlycould be considered racist but how does one know that dr. juan was not a born american citizen and perhaps his father and grandfather as well. some of the very best doctors i have ever encountered have been dr. malik an indian, dr. bajash, another indian. my all time favorite doctor was a dr. khalaf a graduate of the baghdad university. A doctor is a very personal choice and the person has to be someone you are comfortable with no matter the reason. yes, you are. assuming that you picked the english one and ditched the spanish one, reason being their background / provenience. you could not know who is more competent at it. No, but you should check your state medical board online(its free and easy) to see if he has any malpractice suits or complaints against his license. Juan Castro may be a world renowned physician and John Davis may be a scalpel happy quack and you wouldn't know just because you were biased and un-informed. Not in the slightest! But why would you worry as it's your health you are talking about and no matter who you pick someone could call you a racist.. no, maybe someone feels more comfortable with a doctor of their ethnic background. for example, my grandma only sees hispanic doctors. not because she is racist, but because she feels more comfortable with someone that can speak spanish The question is poorly posed. Is Dr. Davis identifiable, racially, by his name? Of course not. Racist is based on race, isn`t it? My point of view, there is no race if you believe Adam and Eve are parents of human race. Everybody has his(her) own point of view, isn`t it? I would have picked Davis, yes it could probably be considered opinionated or racist i guess. What if you pick a doctor because they have an Asian name? Is that racist? If you're not Asian? Racist, maybe. **Nopee I Wouldnt Consider It Racist Because Your Just Picking A Name That Sounds More Appealing To You. it depends why you picked that doctor No, because one's name is not always representative of their race or religion. yes it is I know someone who is a doctor. and they turned down mainly mexican doctors Maybe you feel like you have more in common with one of them, like a common background. Based on the example you gave? Yes. no .. racists is based on race. That would be prejudice. depends on your thoughts. If you pick because of their name it is racist. uhh...yes, it is prejudice yes, but we all do it. Yes!! no no |
