Town insurance company giving me a hard time? |
I'm a member of the NJ National guard and a med student. I recently had a tree fall on my car causing about $1000 worth of damage. I was told by the police officer that responded that it was a borough tree and it was noted in the police report. He told me to contact the County clerk to file a claim so i could be reimbursed. I did, and had to fill out a big pile of paperwork and turn it in (with photos, copies of the police report, etc). I just found out that the insurance company was flat out dieing my claim. Do I have any legal ground to stand on? I'm not sure what i can/should do. Like i said, I'm a medical student and except for my National Guard drill pay, don't make any money. I also have an old car, and only had liability insurance on it, not comprehensive. But i figured (from what the cop kinda implied) that it would be the town's insurance that would be accountable. Any advice? thanks for the advice. how would i start an arbitration? I tried to look it up, but am not sure if its something i do through the insurance company or hire an outside arbiter. Insurance as a whole I think denies all claims at first. Just keep plugging away at them. The cop has no jurisdiction in telling/implying what the outcome is going to be. very intereting question.Suggest you have a look here for useful tips. |
