Does anyone believe insurance companies are protecting us?

my parents' home insurance company just dropped us. they said the area where we live is 'at high risk for fire damage'. well i was under the impression that protecting people in the case of a fire was their job. i always knew insurance companies were vultures. but dropping us because they may have to do their job seems incredible.

Insurance companies are not in business to do what you or I want them to do. They are in business to make money where it is practical to do so.

If we are in an area where it is virtually guaranteed that there will be a flood, getting flood insurnance is next to impossible. If an insurnace company tells us that we are at extreme risk of something happening, maybe we need to move to a place where the risk is low enough that we can get insurance.

No I don't. They are in the business of making money and the minute you become a liability instead of an asset, they will rid themselves of you.

I had cancer back in the 80's and had to undergo 12 operations in a 4 year period. My husband lost a well paying job, (before the laws were changed) because my cancer was costing the company and their insurance company too much money.

Insurance companies have no moral obligation to accept bad risks any more than any other kind of business. When they determine your area to be at high risk for fires, and drop you as a client, you no longer pay them a premium. So what?

I work at an insurance company... and to be completely honest.. all we care about is our commission.

Part of the buisness is assessing risk to the people they sell to. You probably live in an area that had alot of wild fires or something. They have the right to decline anybody coverage. If I got into a bunch of car accidents my car insurance would drop me like a bad habit.
