Do you see more forced spending from the government?

I am legally forced to buy car insurance, mortgage insurance, homeowners insurance, donations through property taxes already. With this healthcare issue on the horizen will we be forced soon to buy medical insurance? How much power does the government have to enforce these purchases on us and how far can it go?

Yes, that's what one should expect on our long, slow slide into socialist serfdom.

I consider all these things to be the bricks of good intention that pave the road to Hell.

You are not forced to buy car insurance, you only have to if you want the privilege of driving a car, and the insurance is to protect your fellow drivers.

Mortgage insurance is only if you use a high rate mortgage, not the government's problem if you choose to go that route. Buy what you can afford and you avoid it.

'Donations' through property tax? No, you are paying for the services your local government provides. Roads, schools, police, etc.

Taxes are a way to apportion the needs of society among it's constituents based (often) on their ability to pay. The people rule, if they bother to vote. No vote: no say. If you don't like the way the gov. splits the money, work to elect someone who agrees with you.

Unfortunately we are headed for a socialist state where the government redistributes our money among everyone.
