Do i need a lawyer to represent me? (knowledgable people only- please answer)? |
i had a car acciedent in sept 07, i hred a lawyer but because my injuries were not serious the firm dropped the case- i want to know do i have to settle for what the(the other person') insurance company is willing to settle for or can ai get full compensation - not just 50%. also since the other person recieve compensation for his car and i personally witnessed that he had no damages - how will that effect my future insurance rate?????????? If you were not at fault, it won't affect your premiums. And it sounds like you aren't suffering here - you just want more money. Take your settlement and let it go. You are free to try to represent yourself but most cannot do so adequately. I couldn't comment on your position because I cannot even tell if you are the plaintiff or the defendant. However, I can say that the settlement value of a case, from the standpoint of an insurer, is determined in large part by estimating the likely result of trial. If you are representing yourself, they wil see little likelihood of you prevailing at trial and so the settlement value will decrease substantially. You must let them know that while you are currently unrepresented, you are more than willing to hire someone to take it to trial if the need arises. Usually, if you're in a car accident and it was a no fault one, then your insurance rates should not go up. If they try to raise them, find another insurance carrier. You don't need a lawyer if you weren't hurt much, but you can ask your insurance company to reimburse you your deductible, and your insurance company should be ablet to go after the other person's insurance to get repaid back anything your insurance company paid out on car repairs, rentals, etc. call another attorney. Accidents can cause trouble for you physically and even for your car long after the accident happened. Call an attorney |
