Can I go to jail for not being able to meet the court's Deadline for Community Service? |
I live in Texas. I got a ticket a couple of months ago for driving without insurance and got assigned Community Service. Well, I just signed up for Community Service and won't be able to finish my hours until 2 weeks after the deadline. Advanced notice to the proper department would be in order or your be in worse shape than you were befor. You could if you don't communicate with the court. Contact the court and talk with them, open communication can keep you out of jail. They don't want to put you in jail but will if you can't be responsible to at least contact them. Most courts will be very easy to work with, if you talk to them and ask for more time and have a legit reason for wanting more time. If you have a habit of being irresponsible, they may be more strict. I would contact the court and request an extension. If you communicate, chances are, your extension will be granted. Be sure to show up to your assigned tasks. If an emergency arise that may interrupt you from completing your community service after your extension is granted, continue to communicate. Good Luck. Usually SWAT shows up wherever you are, they repel from the ceiling with automatic weapons shooting in short bursts yelling "Clear!" Untill they get to wherever you are, throw you on the ground, and zip tie your hands togather, taze you beat you a little, then throw you in the back of a large black van that says S.W.A.T. Then when you regain consciousness, they interrogate you for hours on things you have no idea about playing good cop- bad cop, maybe slap you around a little. Yes, but if you are working on fulfilling the requirement the judge may have mercy on you. Do the responsible thing and communicate with the court clerk...do it now....do it in writing, advising the court that you have signed up for community service and exactly when you will start and complete your program....then make sure you in fact do the program and do it on time...if you mess around there will be some consequences but if you are upfront with the court and stick to your plan then everything should be cool. Cry like Paris Hilton did and maybe they will "feel so bad for you" and let you off the hook. ahhh duh |
