Is it illegal for a car collision repair shop to qoute different a different estimate in two days? |
I was in an accident where I was hit from behind. The police officer stated the other driver was at fault. I decided to get the ball rolling and went to two different car collision repair shops to get estimates for the damage on my own. The next day I was contacted by the insurance company of the driver who was at fault and they gave me the locations of repair shops associated with their company. It just so happened that I had visited and was qouted an estimate by one of the shops on their list. I made no mention of this to the claims agent on the phone and went back in the very next day with the paperwork detailing the estimate they qouted from the previous day. I assumed they would just reprint it with today's date. Instead, they qouted me a completely different estimate! They went from $1200 in damages to $411 in damages! What gives? Is t his illegal? Please help! Since it's only an estimate, it's not illegal. The difference in price may be due to factory original, vs. aftermarket prices. As long as they fix all the damage what difference does it make? They may have some type of agreements with said insurance company for lower repair costs |
