My car was parked when another driver hit it. It was totalled. Should I show the ins co the KBB value?Or wait? |
KBB means Kelly Blue Book value. I am afraid that they will name a ridiculously low value. My car has very low miles. The insurance co. won't fix the car bc the cost of body work is much higher than the value of the auto. Thanks. I do not have collision coverage (in my state, ppl are required to have only liability coverage to pay for damages they might be responsible for; collision is extra). The other driver's insurance has admitted liability already. I had 2 witnesses (they told me about the accident) who saw the other driver hit my parked car. they wont give you kbb on it, but you can try to fight them for a higher offer This requires negotiation with the insurer(s). Talk to your own insurance company; if you have comprehensive coverage, your insurer will dicker with the driver's insurer to get a reasonable settlement. If you don't have comp, see what the driver's insurer is willing to offer. There are 3 values on KBB.com (trade in, private sell and retail). The later no one could ever get in most cases and you won't get it for your car either. I would wait, you have knowledge, and if you are not happy with what they propose contact your insurance company and fight for more. Just don't expect more then what is right and fair. They already have the blue book and have checked it out. Show them or not. Remember, also, that you do not have to accept the offer. If you think you can prove a value higher than what was offered, reject the offer and make a counter-offer. Faiing that, see if you can get arbitration or mediation. use courts as a last resort. if you can go to a few body shops and get estimates and i hope you took pictures of the vehicle, and do not settle for the little check the insurance gives you take them to court if it goes that far. good luck. try nada.com they will give you higher rates for your car.... The insurance company has a KBB, so I don't know what you'd gain by showing that to them. My car was totaled, and 21st Century paid me $1000 OVER high KBB. You may just want to wait and see what they offer. I have been in an accident where my car was totalled. The insurance company did base the $$ on the Kelly Blue Book value. Depending on your insurance company, you may be able to show them receipts of additional things that you have put into the vehicle that would be added to the vehicle's value. I would wait. Don't worry about something that hasn't happened yet! If you look on KBB.com, you will notice that values are based on all kinds of things, including low miles! Good luck! |
