What happens to a physician's career after a lawsuit? Legal experts opinion please?

If a physician is sued for not such a huge thing such as not reminding a patient to come in for an appointment (and now the condition the patient has, has gotten a lot worst)

1- Does he have to pay money out of his own pocket although he has insurance

2- Will he get less referals

3-Will his license go on some type of probation

4-If he wants to move out of the state and practice else where in the future, will he have a hard time finding a job or will he get bad offers?

Thanks a bunch
Please only respond if you really know what you're talking about. This is very important.

For those of you who are having doubts believing this, let me say it's true. Doesn't seem possible but my friend is getting sued for that reason I just stated. I'm not here trying to sue anyone, I'm in the medical field myself, so that's the last thing I'd want to do

This website can answer a lot of your questions

Have you ever read about any such matter and used it in consideration of selecting a doctor?

Neither has anyone else.

The effect is about as close to nil as possible.

Malpractice is something completely different but you specifically excluded that in your question.

a good Physician, will carry malpractice insurance,.....it has been documented that 25 percent of physicians will be sued some time during their career's,.....
