If a police officer gets a dwi while off duty, does he lose his license and job immediately like a trucker? |
If a trucker gets a dwi in his off time, he loses his license and job immediately and cant get another driving job for 3-7 years because the insurance companies won't insure him. Does the same apply for police officers and if not, at what cost to the taxpayers does it take to keep them insured. IS THERE EQUAL JUSTICE!!! I think the issue here is the CDL- and it isn't an even comparison. A truck driver DRIVES- there are other tasks a police officer can perform outside of driving- So, getting the DWI doesn't, on it's own, prevent the officer from doing his/her job. A police officer doesn't have a CDL which is what a trucker drives on. A person holding a CDL drive under a different set of rules, however, that Police officer, can go to a higher up, claim he has a problem, get into a treatment program, and possibly still keep his job. He will be put leave with or with out pay depending on the state. If he didn't ask for help, and is convicted, he can lose his license and job. it depends on what state you are in and thier laws. Here if a officer gets a DUI or DWI they go on leave w/pay till they go to court. If convicted they lose their job. In most states, they take care of their own. If the Arresting officer turned him in, he would be a snitch in his own back yard. They would arrange a ride home for the officer and have his car towed. What the officers boss will do is set him up with alcohol abuse counseling and or a short suspension. Some simply get a slap on the wrists and it business as usual. I really think he should!!! |
