Please PLEASE dont judge me....Possible SSI fraud?

Ok So im the payee of someone that receives SSI. He and I went and cashed the check last night, only spent 100$ out of it on insurance for the car, stopped off at a truck stop to check the car and lost his wallet with the remainder of $700 in it. Now.....PLEASE do not judge me given the circumstances, because this WILL be paid back. We want to see if we can go to SSI and let them know the check never came and see if we would be able to get another check.....We have rent due amongst many other bills and face living on the streeets. YES we should have been more careful but things happen and now were up Sh*t creek without a paddle about to roar up some white waters. So please if anyone has any info Id so greatly appreciate it. If they found out would they harshly come after me such as jail time? Or would they just take out of his monthly check therefore after

We ve never done this before nor do we ever plan on doing it agian. (were going with direct deposit now). Yes it was irresponsibl

Are there any other possible options besides what I just described to you all? I can't get a load nor can he, and we have no one to help us out but ourselves. PLEASE HELP!

I would find some sort of short-term monetary assistance or loan. Maybe the Salvation Army or some sort of church organization, or a loan from the bank. The government will have the check with your payee's signature etc and possibly video of you cashing the check. This is a bad idea.

Dana (attorney)

Did you sign the check to cash it? Of course you had to so you will get caught.

I wouldn't do it.You could lose all ssi benifits in the future and serve jail time.Simply not worth it. YOu will really be up ***** creek if you do. File a police report then go to public assistance and see if they can temporarily help out. Good Luck.

Are you kidding? Of course it's SSI and check fraud; and intentional. Loss of benefits, payback and possible jail time.

If you think things are bad now, try that game.

Borrow the money for a few weeks first.

for your edit:
Sorry for your misfortune. I guess you could request a new check you'd have a place to live (till your sentence was up); of course the cat would be out of luck, and you'd have no income as well as fines to pay when you got out instead of another tough short term month.

they can look it up and see the check was cashed and by whom, where, and when and you will get charged with fraud and sent to jail.
Just talk and explain it to your landlord or try to borrow the money from a relative or friend.

i DO NOT reccomend doing that they will now if the check has been cashed anyway plus your messing with the federal government when you messing with ssi trust me i know,i hate to say it but chalk it up as a lost till next month

I got some advice for you.

Quit relying on the government to pay your bills. Get a job and work like a normal person should.

For comment on your edit:
Your landlord isnt an asshole. Hes trying to make a profit by renting out his home. How do you know he doesnt have a mortgage on the home? Would you like the house to go into foreclosure because YOU decided not to pay the rent? As far as college goes, get a loan! Quit relying on the government to pay your bills. Find your local chase bank and apply for a student loan. They will be happy to talk to you and provide payment plans that you can play them back once you graduate. Now your cat going to the pound, how is losing your SSE check have anything to do with the cat? Can you not provide for him? Can you not keep a roof over his head and provide him food? If you cant give an animal food then you shouldnt of had a cat in the 1st place.

Now this wont happen to me because I come from a family who owns over 200 rental homes, owns 4 businesses, etc... and have no sympathy for people on welfare/SSI/foodstamps. I tell them when I tell you, get a J-O-B. If you dont have a car then hop in mine and I will drive you to the nearest temp service to find you one.

If you claim that the check never came they'll put a trace on it and find out that it did. The result will be a criminal prosection for fraud - for which you will go to jail - plus the SSI will be shut off.

Richard

They can easily verify whether the check was cashed or not, even verifying the signature of who endorsed the check and at what bank (enabling them to pull videotapes). You are asking for a world of hurt if you try the fraud road. I would ask a friend or family member if you can take a temporary loan from them, making sure of course that you pay them back over the next couple of months. Good luck.

You are lucky enough to get assistance in the first place and regardless of your situation if you do as you suggest it is fraud. If I lost my some money after I cashed my paycheck and tried to pull that at my job I'd be fired.
Dont do it.

If I can get in trouble for it when I actually earned my check, why shouldnt you? It sucks that your life is in shambles but don't be hateful to those who can have and keep a job and are lucky enough not to be dependent on the government in the first place. Haven't you heard of Karma with that nastiness you spew? Maybe thats why your life sux.. I do wish you the best tho.. just relax and take it a day at a time.

First of all, I will be extremely PISSED if my tax dollars end up paying for your irresposibility.

Second, you can probably explain to your landlord that something has happened and he or she may be generous enough to extend your due date. It has happened to my friend in the almost exact same situation. She supports her two little brothers and her mom, who is schizophrenic and has a whole hash of medical problems.

Do you have a job? If so, ask for more hours to compensate for the money lost.
If not, please STOP getting free loads off everyone else in the country.

If there is no possible way for you to get any money whatsoever, I suggest looking for cheaper necessities.

i dont recommend it..

They can probably trace where you cashed the check, so I wouldn't say I lost it. You could explain your situation and see if they could help, but SSI fraud is just going to get you into deeper sh*t.

This is a very bad idea! They can trace the check, see that it was cashed, find your signature on it, and prosecute you for fraud which can lead to jail time! Sorry!

Is there any way you can borrow the money? Or go to a check cashing place to get some cash until your next check comes in. That is bad luck. . . too bad!

Look, I know the situation is hard, but what you're proposing is a felony. The check isn't lost, and SSI is going to get it and its going to have his signature. If you've reported it lost, your problem of losing $700 will pale by comparison to the world of hurt you're going to find yourselves in.

Instead, go to SSI and other similar public and private entities (like churches and local civic groups) and tell them the TRUTH. Tell the landlord, too.

And don't say that it was irresponsible. Irresponsible would be taking it to a casino and losing it. This was an accident that could happen to anybody, and has happend to a LOT of people.

The truth in the right ear will get you the help you need. Lying to SSI is going to cause more trouble than you already have.

GET A JOB!!!!!

Quit living off other peoples' income and start earning your own.

I hope you get caught and spend time in jail. Absue of the system should never go unpunished

Theyre going to realize that you already cashed the check...sorry =(

No, you can't do that. It wouldn't work anyway because they can prove that you cashed the check. It was your money and your responsibility. You're SOL.
