Unconstitutional TX Police Road Block! not for safety reasons! Bull!?

Can they block off a major road ?its for no reason other than ID and insurance checks. Hows is this any different than being pulled over without probable cause? This is annoying waited in line for 26 minutes! Tenn supreme court said its crazy.

you know what else causes long waits and roads being blocked off. the clean up from a drunk driver hitting another car head on

Oh yeah but its a little worse for the poor person hit by the drunk driver and dies while the drunk walks away with a few scratches

If we could be trusted to be a little more responsible then maybe they wouldnt be needed.

I bet you are the type who would be on here complaining if you were hit by an unisured driver.

Mike: Driving is a privledge not a right so yes they have every right to pull you over and check you out. like one person said as long as they are checking everyone they are fine. They are not ripping you out of your car and searching it without probable cause.

Did you know that a officer of the law can ask you at anytime for your name and other bio info and you must produce it? That is in or out of a car. The Supreame Court upheld this law on several occasions.

Even though the passanger in the car isnt driving the officer can make them produce ID.

You have no right to refuse giving ID to a law enforcement oficer.

Listen Drunk Driving claims more lives every year than most any 5 illnesses combined. If you have to be delayed for a bit for that then so be it you are not giving up any of your rights just some time. Do you know how much time I spend standing in a security line at the airport wiating to walk through a metal detector after emptying my pockets, taking off my shoes and presenting ID to them. Hours sometimes. That means I have to show up hours before my flight.

They do this with not probably cause to beleive I am going to hi-jack or blow up the plane, but they do it to everyone for saftey reasons.

By the way I live part of the year in the US & part of the year in the UK so I know all about both countries and dont see your comparision.

Also I served in the Marine Corps and was wounded in Iraq so I am the last person who would agree with someone giving up their rights but I just cant make the leap that this is somehow giving up any right.

The Big Picture is that too many people die from drunk drivers and too many drunk drivers who lost their license are back on the road driving without a license. I like the Idea of catching them

What gets me is that people that think it is a good idea fail to see the big picture here. As an American you have rights. These little tactics that some police organizations due are in fact illegal and a violation of your rights as a citizen. Is it worth making a big deal over showing your ID? Absolutely, If you don't stand up for your rights you will lose them completely. Look at the UK.

They get away with it by using the guise of public safety. As long as they stop every car, it is legal. They pulled that stunt at the bolivar ferry using the coast guard, and came away with 23 dopers, probation violators, bond jumpers and others with warrants. Cars were searched, people arrested, cars towed etc. Overall the state had a good day. But I bet the state didn't pay lost wages to those that were late to work, or pay for the babysitters extra timeand on and on and on.

i know where i live in san antonio they want to start setting up dui check points. and yes, in both cases it's bull. it creates unnecessary traffic jams.

they do it in las vegas all the time. its so people will slow down, and obey the law. somebody has to pay,and make money. I think its a good idea,so dont forget to buckle up...lol

Welcome to the North American Union.

Yes, it is crazy and is an invasion of privacy. They should be doing this cr*p on the BORDER...not in the state.
