Is it not right to employ Ex-Felons? |
Im 28 years old I took a car without permission when I was 17 I didnt try to out run the law and there were no drugs or weapons I made other bad choices @ that time so I have a lenghy Teen Record.Fast forward to 2008 I have a job(dead end) I put myself through School Trucking School(long time career goal) $5,000 out of pocket Passed the class with a 97% and I can't get a CDL job...Why.....Cause im a Felon dose society have a miss conception that Felons cant be trusted and were dangerous..yes Some felonys are Seriouse Ive been told by Attorneys and local PD's that what I have is the lowest class felony you can get.Oh and you can get a felony for alot of things so were not all drug dealers or Rapest we live in a society were everyting is red by the cover and it hurts the ones that are trying to do the best even after makeing mistakes. Some people forgive But None forget.Ps I paid the "Victim" 2x what there car was worth and they didnt have insurance try applying for smaller companies. Jb Hunt Schneider and other big trucking names probably wont hire you but a smaller company will. In most places you can 10-20 dry van companies willing to hire just about anyone. Once you have a year or 2 worth of expereince the bigger companies will hire you. Otherwise try some construction companies. The road and utility construction companies routinely hire for equipment movers and water truck drivers. Most require a CDL and drug test only (not even a high school diploma needed) and routinely hire people with criminal records. Another place to try is your trucking school. They may know of companies willing to hire you. Some companies actually have policies not to hire new graduates of trucking schools and this may be part of your problem. Try circummventing it with experience in a related field. First of all I don't think its right not to employ someone who has a record. Im not saying a pedifile should become a school teacher, but some crimes are not as severe although they be labeled as felonies. If you served your time then they deserve to be free to get a job and live their life but........on job applications they dont leave room for you to explain oh I was 17 and im not like that anymore....no they just ask if ur a convicted felon or not. Anyway its not right but you cant blame others thats reality....if i had a choice maybe i would chose a non criminal as oppoed to one. Let this be a lesson to everyone..... Id employ you if I had a business.... I believe everyone deserves a second and fair chance... ther are risks involved for the company. s%*t man, the thing is in a work place If you're looking for a jod with big company, when they know you have a record, they REALLY questions you HONESTY. its not even a huge case wow, that really sucks. you should be given the right to get a job, People change. |
