What would you do if you got into an accident in a parking lot and no one saw it?

I had a student ask me this no lie. She asked me what to do if you hit someone's car in a parking lot but no one is around to witness it (I'm guessing this happened to her and I have inspected my vehicle and it's all good :-D) I told her to try and find out who's car it is, call your insurance company...etc. etc. If all else fails I told her to leave a nice note with her name and cell number. Than I overheard a few students tell her to just high-tail it and park somewhere else if no one saw it. LoL. What would you do in this situation?

Wow that story about the note made me laugh. Sorry to hear about your car, but at least you had a sense of humor about it. I tried to give the right message, but than again you have to realize these are teenagers I work with and they think they can get away with anything. Luckily she did report it and everything was resolved.

I once came out of a store to find a new ding in my car and a note on the windshield. The note read: "Dear Sir or Madam, I accidentally hit your car just a moment ago. Several witnesses think I am leaving you a note with my phone number but I am not." After a while I laughed.

our behavior should be the same if someone is watching or not.............leave the correct message..or even better call police and have them do it...they will know who owns car

You gave the absolute correct answer. Unfortunately it seems in our society being responsible for oneself has become passe. It is sad to think that we have a large number of people running around with questionable ethics and the inability to empathize with the person who was wronged.

I would leave a note -- with my info. I'm no saint, but I'm also not the type of person to hit and run. I treat others the way I want them to treat me.

i'd definitely want to report it. if it damaged their car, i'm sure it damaged mine too. ahh how good it is to be grown up with good insurance.

I would do exactly what I did when it happened. I waited for the owner of the other car and gave her my info.

I wouldn't count on the fact that no one saw it. A lot of parking lots have security cameras now. So even if there weren't any eye witnesses, you might have been caught on tape, which is even worse.
