Question about child support witholding insurance?

I'm paying 280 a month child support, and work a part time job 20-30 hours a week, and going to school and have never been offered insurance for myself, but on my last paycheck they took out 56 dollars for insurance through that Starbridge Insurance company. With everything they are taking out, I'm only bringing home a 100 dollars a week. So can they just up and take insurance out of my check when I haven't even been offered it myself, and am not enrolled?

On the order it says that she pays 52% and I pay 48%, and that if health insurance was available to me that I could just have the kid put on my insurance, but it was never available to me, and have never gotten anything saying I was enrolled in the plan. The kid is also on the state's healthcare.

The question here is, were you told you would be responsible for providing medical insurance for your dependant? If so, that could be what the ins. deduction was for. Also, does your state have mandatory medical coverage? I would check with your employer and Starbridge. Could be they just made a mistake.

Hell, no.

It would be wise to have insurance just in case of an emergency. You never know the future

Cheeerist, do I feel for you. We pay child support here too, and yes, we are glad to do it for the child, but it's really whacked the way you can't deduct it on taxes, and the recipient parent doesn't have to declare it as income. They base it on your GROSS income, before taxes are taken out, yet you still don't get to deduct it!!! wow. And now this? I take it the custodial parent does not have insurance? You are almost better off not working! haha, not an option and not a good idea I know, but it's a real turn off. Is it possible to re-arrange things so that you have joint custody and part time physical custody? That would solve your problem.
Usually, only full time employees are offered insurance, but I would call the Starbridge rep., and discuss this with your ex. You should work it out so that you are at least splitting the bill for the child's insurance.

If you have been ordered to provide insurance for your child and have not been doing so, the court has made that arrangement for you.

You should get a full time job to take care of that child you brought into the world. Get a full time job and go to school part time. It will take you longer to finish but your child will have what he/she needs. That's the way most parents do it.

It is YOUR child and YOU are responsible for the care and maintenance of the child just as the mother is.

If you don't start making more money, when the child support order comes up for review, they will take more from your "part-time" job. Quite frankly, the court doesn't give a crapola about your school or anything else. The courts primary concern is to assure you are doing your part in making sure YOUR child is taken care of so the taxpayers don't have to pick up the slack.

We don't want to raise your child or pay for it's insurance.....

If you haven't signed up for insurance thru your job they shouldn't be taking it out of you; however, if it is court ordered you may not have a choice in them taking insurance out for your son. Check your state laws and with personal to find out if they received a court ordered document requesting the health insurance. If they didn't then the employer is doing something that you have not signed for and it is against the law.
