Is it considered insurance fraud (w/ home protection ins.) make a claim on a dishwasher and not replace it? |
My dishwasher went out, I called the home protection insurance they sent a person out he said the washer was broken. Insurance company paid out $357. If I choose not to replace the washer is that fraud? uh...probably. Most policies require you use the funds to repair or replace the damaged appliance. Anything else they will consider fraud I would not say that it was fraud. If they pay out your claim and decide to use the funds for something else and keep the broken dishwasher you still obtained the funds legally for a legal reason. It is up to you what you use the funds for. Now if you obtained the funds for a broken dishwasher and the dishwasher was not broken I believe that would be fraud. The same concept goes with car wrecks, how many people do you know that received a car wreck repair settlement and did not use the money to repaire the car because it was only cosmetic damage. Think about it!!! |
