Insurance company wants to take my money - what should I do?

I was responsible for a house fire (by accident) and now the insurance company that covered the damage wants me to pay for it! I just got a "notice with interrogatories" that asks for information like my employer, bank account and what jewelry I own. I'm a homemaker who only makes $50/paycheck, but I'd like to keep my job if possible.
Is it better to not turn in the form or to answer incorrectly?
It asks if I own a gun, and I do(worth $170). Do I need to sell it to avoid seizure?
Can my boyfriend be legally affected if I tell them he pays for the rent?
If I quit my job, cancel my bank account and sell my gun, how likely is it that they'll confiscate my valuables (I only own maybe $300 worth of electronics)?
What's the worst case scenario? Would I get jail time (and how much) if I don't turn in the form?
I understand these questions are best answered by a lawyer, but someone with $100/month income can't afford one. Any help will do. Thanks!

So they'll actually go through the trouble of garnishing my $100/month? I figured there's a minimum amount that they'll bother with.

jesus christ, 100/month income? I made more than that when i was 14 cutting grass!

Seriously though, there is no need to panic or worry... whats done is done. They do not want your 170.00 gun, or 300.00 worth of electronics...

They will however ruin your credit for the rest of your life. You will never be able to own a home in your name because they will put a lein on it, you will never be able to get a tax refund because they will garnish it, etc..

In other words, your screwed. just fill out the paper, and realize that you will never know what financial independance is.

Edit - no, they will probably not garnish your 100.00 a month. There is a Minimum amount of your salary that they can garnish anyway. They can't take 100% of your salary, but they can take 100% of your refund etc..

better answer the questions honestly--but try getting in touch with legal aid in your area-- they reduce fees a lot or give you services free-if they don't handle cases like yours-they should be able to give you free consultation or advise you of a lawyer that does. Just notify the insurance company that you are talking to a lawyer and will get in touch with them..Keep all correspondance with the insurance company to show any lawyer. I am afraid that you may have to pay the insurance company back no matter what, even though the fire was an accident.

uh...you started a fire, created the damage, but shouldn't pay for it? Why?

Fill it out correctly; you have enough problems.

They aren't seizing anything. It doesn't work that way.

Worst case they will sue you for the damages.

One way or the other, they will get the money from you. The best thing you can do is try to set up a payment plan with them and begin paying them back.

They will dog you until you die or until they get their money - whichever comes first.
