Can I get some kind of insurance on my mother without her involvement?

My mother is in her 80"s and has no life or burial insurance. She refuses to discuss this with me and I am afraid I will not be able to handle her final expenses without some help. Can I get any kind of insurance for this purpose without her participation?I live quite a distance away,in another state and there would be travel expenses also.I don't know very much on the subject of insurance and just assumed she had made arrangements.

Absolutely. You will need to know her medical history and personal information. other than that you can take insurance out on anyone in the world. There are no laws that require the insured to participate.

Probably, Wal-Mart used to take out insurance policies on their older employees without their knowledge and cash them in after they died so I would think you can too.

Yes, you can. People do this all the time. You can take out a life insurance policy on ANYONE - including people you don't know. However, most of the people who do this end up being murderers.

You really should speak with your mother about all of this. A good way to open up the lines of communication is to let her know that you were thinking about setting up a trust. Tell her that you have been thinking about it so that when your time comes you will have all of your affairs in order. You don't want to leave it up to others to have to take care of this for you. You can let her know that a trust is better than a will since you can not break a trust. Note: that a will is also done with it, but the trust rules over it.

A trust is good because their are no inherritance taxes, if property is left to family. The taxes rate of the property where she lives would stay the same, they won't be able to raise it just because it was passed on to your. There are many good things about a trust. Check out the information for your self, so that you will be better informed when you speak with your mother.

It will give you an opportunity to be able to bring up the subject as you can say I wanted to get your opinion with this. After she tells you what she thinks then you would be able to ask her if she has her own affairs in order. Trusts are really terrific, God Bless my mother she had a trust and it made all of our family lives a lot easier.

You need to just ask her, let her know that you are just concerned about if she has made any sort of plans. I know that here in San Diego a lawyer told me that I could have one done for under two thousand.

Tell that you are concerned about if she has insurance or not, so that all her expenses will be able to be taken care of, so that the burden of the expenses won't be there later.

Death and things such as these are all ways difficult but if you approach it right it should be all right. It is after all another phase of our lives that we must deal with.

I hope this will help you. I think it's better to speak with your mother first, then you can all ways speak with a lawyer. Get a free consultation with an lawyer to see what rights you may have. Be sure to advise him that she doesn't live in your state.
