Is my room covered by home and contents insurance? |
I rent a room in an apartment from the owner and the owner's brother rents the other room. There was a burglary and mostly my stuff was stolen. The owner made a claim on the home and contents insurance but they don't want to pay for my things stolen from the rented room. Nope! When you rent a room or rent an apartment you have to get renters insurance on your own. Hate to say it but you have to take the loss. No, the insurance only covers the property owned by the insured. If you don't have a policy of your own, you don't have coverage. No - the owner's insurance policy normally covers only their own posessions - the policy may extend to cover contents of guests - but this generally means friends/ relatives, not paying guests. No, unless you had property insurance in which case you could receive money for it. |
