Got ticket in Colorado, no insurance & live in Oklahoma. Do I have to go to court or can I just pay the fine? |
I don't want to have to go all the way back to Colorado (900+ miles) just to go to court. Can't I show proof of insurance and pay any fines by mail instead? Thank you. Probably. Just call the courthouse that you were supposed to report to (BEFORE the date you're supposed to appear), and explain the circumstances. They'll just be glad that you even intend to pay. What does it say on the ticket???????? Contact the clerk of the court and ask. If not, hire a lawyer in the town where you got the ticket. They can likely take care of it without you going to court unless you want a trial. Read the ticket... I think in most cases, courts will dismiss the ticket if you can show proof of insurance at the time of the ticket. You should have paid it before you left Colorado. Posted bond for court. Mail will work. Did for me. No insurance, must go to court. You have to appear before the judge in Colorado. Call the court and see what the appearance rules are. You could pssobly pay a fine, court costs and be done. Call the court. I'm not sure about Colorado law, but most states allow you to just pay the fine by mail and mail in any insurance certificates if they require it. |
