The footballer who had no car insurance?

I read a piece in a london paper yesterday regarding a liverpool footballer who was caught driving his hummer with no insurance. His excuse was 'i thought my agent had sorted it'. Is this an acceptable excuse. Personally i feel it is completely unacceptable. Im sure the money wasn't an issue as the guy was paid 拢20,000 a week (a ridiculous sum of money for kicking a ball around) But it is the sheer arrogance of the modern day footballer who assumes he can do anything. I cant stand it when people say that footballers are role models.

Id have to agree. I like to watch a game from time to time and always enjoy the world cup. But cut their wages by 80% at least. How come rugby players are not such arrogant w***ers. Simple; they dont get paid as much.

i could not agree more trigga1uk-if you own a vehicle then it is your responsibility to ensure all documentation is correct-and this is the view the magistrate should take. yes 拢20.000 a week is a ridiculous amount of money to be paid for booting a ball about but this should not make them immune to the law. bearing in mind that some players are paid in excess of 拢100.000 a week god only knows what they could do and then blame their agents!!!.

They should make an example of him. It's a disgrace.

My ex girlfirend used to work for a large high street bank and looked after a few footballers personal accounts.

She said the were ALL always overdrawn.

Agreed. The footballer needs to realize he is responsible for his own actions just like the rest of us. To assume someone else has taken care of something as important as your car insurance is simply ridiculous...time for this guy and other sporting stars to grwon up.

they are a law unto themselves these day. although i like watching football, i am constantly aware that football for these cats is like a part time job and their full time job is fast cars, big houses with grounds to quad bike. Expensive clubs with only the best clientell, no bums allowed! sexy sexy ladies all wanting to be spit roasted by multiple players. The law is now an *** in relation to these celebs, getting off blatently cos they have the cash! its obious to a blind man that these are getting away with eveything that goes to court!

theirs so much to say

Isn't it a shame that rich people can't afford insurance. They can purchase evrything else: cars, houses, trips, yachts, but they just can't seem to afford that motor vehicle insurance. A shame indeed.

I'm with you on this. They are a joke as role models, most of them seem to have their heads up their arses. It should be him who sorts his insurance out ont his agent. It's not like they have a busy life ..Training for a couple of hours a day and a 90min match once or twice a week. Wish my life was that hard.Ha

Can I just say that my brother is a professional football player, and he is not arrogant or a wa.nker.

I AGREE SOME ARE AS YOU DESCRIBE

He doesn't drink, he is very fit, he is active in the community with kids footy teams.............and he has car insurance!
To me this is a good role model for kids, especially as he came from a working class background.

So do me a favour mate........don't tar everyone with the same brush!

Oh an he pays 40% tax on all of his earnings, hasn't spent Christmas with his family in years due to the fixtures and rarely goes on holiday because of the strict rules and international duty!

how unreal!!, who the bloody hell does he think he is? i also agree that they are paid far too much. if clubs can afford these ridiculous wages then use the money for something useful, like improving the community, homing the homeless, feeding the needy, reducing our taxes, percentage to Charity's after all it does start at home and UK put out far too much for everyone else when we need it here too

I think it is down to the persons "status" and the poor inept legal system we have in this country (f course, along with a spiness government but thats another topic). Take Pete Docherty - how many more times does this junkie have to be arrested, put in front of a court to be thrown in jail - I know if iwas me, I would be surely somebody's fluffy pillow by now - disagrace!

Is it any worse than an executive expecting his PA to sort it out or is it pick on footballers day.
