Immigration laws are they strict enough?

Immigration is a big problem. Immigrants move in, they take welfare away from real citizens thus increasing the whole recession problem. Illegal immigration causes us to become poor, because of free loaders like these coming into the US illegaly then not doing anything to get a job and not help the economy, and yada yada. So my question is, are the immigration laws strict enough or does it need to be more sealed?

It is always a big issue especially during recession. No, I don't think it is strict enough. The border are too big for proper enforcement, so I would support any disincentive for immigrants to come here like limiting welfare. But care need to be taken as not to promote xenophobia from general population. However, once the economy is back on its feet (don't think it be anytime soon though), easing up a bit on this laws my be a boost to the economy. Well that's my opinion.

The border needs to be sealed, but only because of drug trafficking and terrorism. Most of the people who come here aren't looking for a handout, they are just looking for a way to feed their family.

If I was in the same predicament I would risk a border crossing if there was a hope of being able to feed my family, and I hope that you would do the same. Family always comes first no matter what country you live in.

The problem isn't immigration, the problem is the crime that is committed by the folks who come here illegally. The drugs and the people who have been on the news lately who have been crossing the border to kidnap Americans to take back to Mexico and hold for ransom.

Most of the folks who cross are just regular folks.

No matter how strict laws are, it is human nature to defy authority. People will find a way to emigrate to a different country.

Besides, everyone coming here is in pursuit of the American Dream. Why deprive them of that chance by increasing useless laws and using more money to stop immigration causing more of a recession when you can just point them to the nearest immigration office?

no, but there are solutions:

Reform immigration policies, make it easier for immigrants that come here LEGALLY by cutting down the amount of time for them to get their green cards, etc. While at the same time, sealing the border. If Mexico complains, tell them to stuff a sock in it.
Punish businesses who knowingly hire illegals.
