Is this a significant problem?

They raided the worlds largest Kosher meat packing plant, and captured 390 suspected illegals, they let 56 go for humanitarian reasons. Mind you, this is the worlds LARGEST Meat packing plant, I would estimate that it probably has about 5,000 workers. Is it worth the money it cost to raid the plants? also the cost to put them in jail, and the court cost, not to mention the lost production, and tax revenue, and lost wages by the owners of the homes they rented, and things like that?

It's the largest kosher meat packing plant, not the largest meat packing plant full stop. You said so yourself.

Enforcing the law is only in small part about cost-effectiveness. Making sure that the laws of the USA are respected within our national boundaries is an end to itself. And in this case, the factory should be employing those legally entitled to work in the USA. If no legal workers can be found then the factory should increase its salary offers. What it cannot be allowed to do is search among illegal aliens for workers to displace Americans.

i am at awe at how our country is not consistent in the treatment of people ..legal or not...

was not our country a country of immigrants? sure they came here legal or not..?? even the US took in war criminals and ex enemies of the US..but I think the law should be universal for everyone and not just for those who have children or have "humanitarian reasons"..it is like when the Viet Nam era was going on and some people got off for going to college...i did for awhile..but then I enlisted...in the Air Force not drafted into the Army...but I digress..some were given a free pass just because they got married..

some say yes..but i don't think so..
only 2% of the illegal immigrants work the fields picking crops..but how many are working under the table without benefits and also no taxes with held and no benefits..like insurance? its an ugly ugly business..they are exploited but yet they are breaking the law..its a no win situation..and yet the number of illegal immigrants are in the millions..nobody knows how many..they can only guess...its a no win situation

I think it's a waste of money because it does absolutely nothing to solve the larger problem.

We need a comprehensive solution.

I don't know if it's worth the cost to put them in jail and on trial, but at the same time those people were stealing IDs. Identity theft can rack up large losses too.

It would be easier if the government would arrest the people who hire illegal labor. Cheaper too.
