Is there a law against people who marry for the purpose of obtaining a green card? |
Well this is what happened a friend of mine at work knows this filipina woman who wants to live and work here and she said that she was willing to pay me 10 grand to marry her so she can get a green card. So I thought about for a while still am actually I mean hell 10 grand who would say no to that. But I goes against what I believe and I don't want my 1st marrige to be with some random woman that I don't even know! Yes it is illegal. You would have to provide proof that you have had an ongoing relationship with this woman, including visiting her in her home country. You will have to go to numerous interviews with immigration providing information on how you met, providing them with pictures of the two of you together, etc. Your stories have to match, you will be interviewed separately. You also have to live as a married couple for 2 years, that means sharing a home, and bedroom. Having bills in your joint name. Immigration does come out and pay you a visit, sometimes without notice. There is also a fine of up to $250,000 and a jail term of up to ten years if caught in a fraud marriage. yes it is fraud, you could get fined and prison time out of your first marriage but they are one and the same if it is a loveless marriage. YES! it is absolutely illegal and it is very hard to pull off. INS has been around a long time and you guys certainly aren't the first to think of this. they'll catch you. They have been putting people away for a long time over that, the $10k will help pay your attorney though, after you get caught. It's called fraud, Einstein. We have enough illegals here already--please don't add to the problem. My taxes are too high already! It is illegal and you could get into trouble if they investigated. |
