Ilegal immigration?

I remember watching a video about this subject. It presented many alternatives on how someone can gain legal entry to the United States as a citizen or legal resident. Question is what are the alternatives??? All I remember is that U.S. immigration awards random "people waiting in line" papers... like a lottery. If you know what this is called... please tell me. Thank You

I was waiting for other answers, but since you haven't gotten any yet, just wanted to point out that we don't take in everyone who wants to come.

For example, all the people whose numbers AREN'T picked.
