What should our nation's policies toward immigration be, and what are the relevant moral issues raised by this |
problem? It is very obvious by the continuing multitudes descending on our homeland, emphasise, to all that, We do -not- have a policy that is in any degree effective the idea that because someone born 2,000 miles away has the right to keep someone born 10 miles away from california out from california is absurd even if you buy into the "born on this land ROAR ITS ALL MINE!!!" mentality. Most countries were empty until someone arrived. Legal immigration is not a problem - providing the person goes through the proper channels and we know who this person is and where they came from. The real problem with illegal immigration is the fact that we have no clue who these people really are, what they are doing in our country, and whether or not they are criminals, etc. but yet we allow them most of the same benefits afforded to US citizens, most of the time for free. If you want to come to this country to work, fine, but they should have some sort of registry in place that identifies the workers & checks their background somehow. If they want to drive they need to pay for insurance and have a valid driver's license - even if it's a license that is a different color which signifies they are not US citizens. If they don't pay into Social Security or Income taxes then they shouldn't be given benefits which are paid for by the same - period. It's only fair. By contrast, if all the illegal workers were to leave our country, it would totally cripple the agricultural industry which would affect every other industry in one way or another, so locking the borders and shooing them out is NOT a solution. Anyone who believes it is, is ignorant about the impact they make in our economy. |
