What is your opinion of the piece of anti-immigration legislation that was adopted in Riverside, NJ?

First off, I am very well aware that this took place last summer so you MIGHT want to READ this before you point that out to me. All I am asking for is your opinion on this since Riverside pretty much followed suit after the mayor of Hazelton did the same thing earlier.

Riverside had a thriving downtown where parking was at a premium. The crackdown had the intended consequence of clearing out a lot of the illegals from town which also provided a lot of extra parking. The unintended consequence was the virtual shuttering of the downtown area and a drop in tax revenues.

The hispanic immigrants relocated to other neighboring towns while the Brazilians, which formed the majority of illegals have formed a two promg atack. While some moved to another suburb of Philly there are groups organized to buy the housing as it becomes available.

The shortsightedness of the residents bankrupted the town and killed the downtown area.

I'm not sure of the content of it, but WHY would anyone in NJ be concerned about anti-immigration? They are so far from any border it is rediculous.

If it means illegal aliens can't work, can't vote, can't drive, can't take public health benefits and have to go home, I think its a great idea. go home and come in legally and you will be welcomed, otherwise you are just a criminal who takes services and jobs without paying taxes and you are stealing from everyone else.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO POST WHAT THEY DID. NO ONE REMEMBER A PISS ANT TOWN LIKE RIVERSIDE NJ. OR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN IT.

A couple of points on the previous comments....

Riverside, NJ is hardly a "pissant" little town. It's quite a large community which just happens to be home to some major league sports stars and a couple of folks from Wall Street. Seems it's cheaper to live in NJ than in NYC.

New Jersey - Jersey City, specifically - is home to the second largest Hispanic community in the United States. There are portions of Jersey City that all of the shops and street signs are in Spanish.

New Jersey has a VERY large immigrant population of all nations - Hindus, Pakistanis, Koreans, Japanese, Saudi Arabian, you name it, they're living in New Jersey.

Get the facts before you spout off.

That the legislation is preempted by federal law and constituted an ultra vires act of the municipal government.
