I am doing a reasearch project for class and I am trying to get a slice of the public's opinions. Thankyou for your thoughts

As to the first part: it has changed the documentation requirements for entry into the US and has restricted the availability of the student visa. I forget exactly how, since its been a while since I've studied that. You might want to research these for more information; but hopefully this gets you started.
