Would you be willing to vote for a National ID card system? If not, why not?

Do you think it would help with illegal immigration to require employers to check national ID cards for each employee? If they don't, fine them?

We already have this, it is called the Social Security Card.

Every employer can call the SSA and verify the information of a given social security number. Our government has just made it so difficult to do this that most employers will not take the time.

When you are hired for a job, you are supposed to provide I-9 documentation. You can use a passport, or state issued id & social security card (not just number), or birth certificate & ss card, etc.

There are already laws and fines in place regarding improperly documenting your workers. The problem is our elected officials would rather waste our money & time by presenting completely new regulations (justifying their jobs) instead of making the appropriate government administration enforce the laws we already have.

Politicians are becoming better and better at doing nothing but creating redundent worthless laws. And we keep re-electing them.

So I would NOT vote for this ridiculous limit on my freedom and waste of the American taxpayers' monies.

Sounds a little like "Big Brother" to me.

it would mean that all persons' were required to get the ID. Including-citizens.

Scary when you read Revelations in the Bible i think this is what they had in mind. I wouldn't vote for it!

I would not because there are better ways of spending my tax dollars

We really don't need such a thing, after all we have driver's licenses and sheriff's licenses that are filed in each state. We just don't need to be giving out driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

Now an immigrant who is here legally, hey no problems, as long as that green card is good to go.

I think the idea of a national ID card is harmless on the surface, but in the long run starts to act and look like what we remember from the old USSR. "Papers, please." We really don't need to go down that road where we are keeping tabs on all sorts of people and their activities at a whim and those in power can easily abuse the liberties of the citizens.

People need to read the constitution and it's amendments. It is the government that is required to provide proof of you breaking a law. Requiring an ID to PROVE you are LEGAL, is not within the framework of the Constitution.

It really is that simple!!. . .

One more thing. . .who counted the 11-12 million illegals that are suppose to be in this country? And how the heck did they know they were illegal? I swear, why do some people just believe anything the news tells them without using their heads to ask the obvious questions????

Cindy B: What would be appropriate ID to obtain a drivers license? Any foreigner in this country is allowed to get a license, it is not restricted to citizens! What current documents that you posses to prove who you are are not forge-able? Do you believe we should all support a DNA data base for the government to watch over? We, as Americans have a right to privacy, and that includes having privacy from the government too. Those of you who have some fear of being harmed by a terrorist, illegal immigrant or any criminal and are willing to drop our constitutional rights are in my book COWARDS! And every solder that has died to protect this constitution is probably turning in their graves every time we give up a right or a freedom in the face of fear!

Today is Veteran's Day. . .remember what was was fought for.

I support a National ID program. We are already half way there. Almost every adult has a State drivers license. The problem is that some of the state's have very lax rules on what ID's you have to present to get a driver's license. I think that the rules should be the same in all states and that a photo ID from a National program be required to be hired.

Sure. Let's put ID microchips in people's hands and foreheads while we're at it!

You can require them to check whatever you want, the sad fact is - is that some employers would rather hire an illegal for $2-$3 per hour than an American Citizen for $6-$7 per hour.

No, it won't help.

There's nothing special about a national ID that provides any additional information or security than state IDs. If a state ID can be forged, you can bet that within days of a national ID being created it can be forged too.

Besides, there already is a national ID format to prove citizenship. It's called a passport. Why do we need another one?
