Is it bigotry to hate those who break the laws I swore to uphold?

In the early 1970鈥檚 I joined the US Coast Guard and swore an Oath to uphold the laws of the USA. During my service I made friends closer than brothers. We risked our lives to enforce US maritime safety laws, port security, anti-narcotic patrols and anti-illegal immigration operations. I am proud of that service and the men and women who sweat, cried and bleed with me. Some of them died that others might live. 27 personal saves and crew for 275 other saves are not the least of the service. Some shipmates died on those patrols doing rescue of fools who were trying to break our laws. Now people say that they have a right to break our laws. Those statements throw away the lives of my shipmates. American, illegal alien, or politicians one and all are despicable! Is it wrong for me to hate those who would do that?

Excuse my bitterness. Today is the 26 anniversary of the death of one of my best friends due to the actions of illegal aliens.

It is my belief that once you resort to "hate" you've lost your professionalism!

There is right and wrong and you chose to do what was right! You should, however, perform your duties without prejudice and equally amongst all!

There will always be those who feel laws to not apply to them. You enforce those laws without prejudice and move on to the next "target."

I don't mean that you should "love" those who've harmed you or your shipmates...but when you act with vengence or hate...you bring more harm to yourself and jeapordize the safety of those who work with you!

When filling your heart with hate...the bad guys win!

I thank all of you who gave me good honest answers. Those who think it a joke may you never know how it feels to lose a friend. Report It

No, and you should join me in convincing young folks that it isn't worth the fight and the sacrifice. Time to let it all burn down like ROme did.

Leave hate out of your life or it will suck.

Also, those who brag about their service are just as despicable as those who don't do service. The quiet heroes are the awesome ones.

God bless you for the work you have done.

There is nothing wrong with hating someone for their actions! It's wrong to hate them for race, sex, etc, but wrong doing is something we should all hate.

if you were a victim of a law breaker bigotry would be a kind word.

You should run for public office. Your hate is wasted energy if you do nothing productive with it. In the mean time, vote for candidates that are staunchly anti-illegal immigration.

Yes. It is for Democrats.

You can hate whomever you wish, but don't make the mistake of presuming laws are absolute.

Laws are only such when acknowledged and enforced (not all particiapte in this), and the makers can move that line anytime they wish.

So, it's really a matter of personal fatih and values. You can be mad at them but understand they do what they do becaue of their values, even if those values repulse you, they are values nonetheless. Who are we as people to say we know what is best? Just because something seems and feels right doesn't mean it's so.

The people who sacrificed has meaning to you and I would say let that be. You have every right to be mad. It's your life.

Everyone has a choice. The lawbreakers make a choice to break the laws. You made a choice to join the Coast Guard and the salary that comes with it. Seems fair to me.

No, it just seems to me that you thought you were doing this for your country and according to the New World Order there are no countries and who in the world would risk their life fighting for the UN. Our best and brightest are dying and the replacements being imported aren't fit to wipe their boots.

Looks like 'hate' has become another word we're not allowed to say!

They have the right to break our laws, but go to THEIR country, and try to break their laws, and what do they do? Throw us in their jails, and make it very difficult to get out, or even deported back to the US. I can understand where you are coming from, they are making a mockery of our laws, and we are letting them, with our little protests, political correctness, etc... I say when in America, do as American's do. Follow the rules, learn the language, pay the taxes, and quit whining. You would expect us to do the same.

Is it ok to hate them? Hate is a pretty strong word, and only feeds your anger. Use your experience in the Coast Guard to re-educate those who you say are despicable. Start with the politicians, since they seem to be the 1st to knuckle under from the pressure to be politically correct, allowing illegals to work, make money, not pay a dime in taxes, and send all the money home to their families, so they can come here and do the same.

I don't think it's bigotry, but I do agree with those who say hatred in any form is a sad waste of time and energy. Out of curiosity, where was your patriotic outrage when the 2000 elections were being stolen by the Supreme Court, or when the American people were being lied into an illegal war?

Rules were made to be broken.
I ask you..."If someone had to break the rules to save your life would you want them too?"
