Two more espionage cases... are these kinds of crimes being punishes severely enough?

Or do people perceive this kind of thing as something that only happens in detective novels?
-A U.S. Defense Department analyst has been arrested and charged with espionage, accused of passing American military secrets to the Chinese government.-
-In an unrelated espionage case, federal authorities in California arrested a former Boeing Co. engineer and charged him with working as an unregistered agent and stealing trade secrets for the Chinese government.-

and -Also in the Virginia case, two Chinese immigrants -- Tai Shen Kuo, 58, and Yu Xin Kang, 33, both of New Orleans, Louisiana -- were charged with conspiracy to disclose national defense information to a foreign government. -

Is this something to consider when deciding to get more thorough regarding immigration laws?

I got nothing to say about the two cases and the people that were involved in it cause the damage has already been done. The only thing I have to say about those traitors they should be made example if you commit treason or are a foreign spy then they should get very harsh sentences. I think anybody selling US secrets to other countries whether you are a citizen or not you should be severely punished and the reason I believe they deserve harsh punishments is cause those secrets could be used against the US and that's like committing murder. Yes, I also now believe in processing and getting more thorough on immigrants also stopping illegal immigrants which some can post a real threat, now a days it's imperative that we take care and guard our nation very diligently I agree with you on that 100%.

Espionage, especially in time of war, carries a sentence of death in this and many countries.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing has little to nothing to do with immigration. Some of the worst ( most damaging and costly ) cases of espionage have involved native-born American citizens ( e.g. the guys at the CIA and FBI ). Presumably, these guys also passed extensive background checks by the agencies at issue.

The only thing to do is make the punishment truly Draconian ( death or life without parole ). Deterrent has to occur in the punishment phase and has naught to do with immigration issues ( although it can't help to have millions of potential terrorists running around without having been inspected and questoned at the border ).

lordy lordy when a person is caught for treason here while in the military, they get firing squad! the marine who is in mexico right followed by a detective everywhere he goes. but, as soon as he cant take the presusure anymore hell be extridited or try to walk and u know what happens then. mexico given em to us is life and him walkin on american soil is death automaticaly,
