Would you mind explaining how the Canadian health care system works?

I hear different things and I know it differs by province.

Is it free?

How long is your avg wait in the emergency room?

Do you like it?

Please don't answer unless you are a Canadian or have experience with the Canadian health care system. Not that I don't want your opinion, I am just looking for Canadian perspective this time.

Thanks

I have often waited 6 or more hours to see a dr. In our province (BC) we pay a premium of $108 per family (or if you are lucky, your employer pays it.) This entitles you to use a clinic, have a dr. (again, if you are lucky enought to find one,) and go to the hospital. Most things are covered, but not everything. You have to pay for prescriptions, casts and different things. It is good that no one is left behind, but it has many, many flaws.
