Do you think Medicaid is being abused?

I understand this is a touchy subject. But, does anyone..
1. Believe there are too many people on Medicaid, WIC, CHIP, or other government aids?
2. Do you believe the aid is being abused? IE: People in perfect health who just do not want to work are signing up or illegal immigrants?
3. Is Medicaid/WIC being used as a justification to have more and more babies?

I personally do not believe its the government's responsibility to fund health care. Thats what jobs with insurance are for. Back in the old days, there was no one to pay for people's sicknesses.

I saw a lady in the grocery store yesterday filling two grocery carts. Just she and her boyfriend. No children. Food Stamps came in, apparently.

I agree with you 100 percent I am a single mother with 4 kids and not once have I ever been on any form of government aid. I see people everyday abuse the money they receive from welfare and it makes me sick I understand that there is a need for those programs but I don't believe that it is for people to sit on there butts and have more kids

ABSOLUTELY However many agency's and hospitals have found ways to use medicaid to extend 'gov' help.
I can't understand why anyone making less than 90,000 don't notice that 17% of their gross pay is taken by the gov for SS and medicaid
and we know that money will never see the light of day again.

It all goes back to sytems that set itself uo to placate the noisy wheels and not solve problems
Disclaimer--I got a $1,500,000 heart transplant on medicaid and I don't think that was right.

Abolutely and it's not going to stop because there is big money in it. Hospitals benefit from it, doctors make money off it. Its a shame because everyone should have health insurance. We are the best Country in the world, yet we can't afford to take care of our own when they are sick. There is a problem with that.

I do believe that it is being abused, but I am thankful that it is there. I was on Medicaid when I was pregnant with my son. My husband and I just moved to a different state, and two weeks later, we found out I was pregnant. We didn't have health insurance anymore, and didn't sign up for Cobra, because it was over $800 a month. My husband was in the middle of a career change. With no health insurance, and having a C Section, we would have paid over $20,000 out of pocket. My brother and sister in law are both in full time ministry, and they have health insurance. Their paychecks are based on donations, so you can imagine they live on a very modest budget. She also was able to qualify for Medicaid. She spends her life helping young, troubled women, and is a subsitute teacher. To qualify for Medicaid, you have to make less than $35,000 a year (for a family of three) Food stamps are way different. I think you have to make less than $400 a month. I used to work at a bank, so I have seen people take advantage of the system, and I hear women complain at the health department that they are not "getting enough", while they are holding a knock-off Coach purse. They make me mad. I am thankful to get anything, as well as swallow my pride. I used to feel the same way a lot of you did, until we needed help. There is a lot of people who are robbing us of our tax dollars, but there are a lot of good families that you are helping.
