If we were to shift to socialized health care, would our paychecks increase?

If part or your overall benefit package is the money that your employer pays on your behalf for health insurance, would you recieve that amount as additional pay if the US adopts national health insurance?

Not at all.

What would happen, is that taxes would increase, so, your paycheck would increase most likely. Also, the quality in your healthcare would decrease, as the government will be desperate for a lot of doctors, so, people who aren't really good will be cutting you open.

Our population is too large to maintain a good universal healthcare sytem. Many people think that because Canada can do it, so can we.

Well, Canada has a population of around 35 million. We, United States, have a population around 305 million. Big difference.

Think of it as the difference between feeding 3 kids, and 30. It's not the same.

Yes for some. No for others.

For those who do not have healthcover, it would increase, as taxes would increase.

For those that do, but where the employer takes away private health cover, wages would increase. The reason is that the increase in taxation would be less than the money paid for private health coverage (look at the links if you doubt me).

But some will keep private health cover. Not many I would imagine.

But remember, Obama is not promising universal healthcare. Which is a shame when you look at the death rate of American kids. Higher than most other industrialised countries in the world. Despite the USA spending more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.

No, they would actually decrease. If you take your gross salary today as including your benefits, that will stay the same. If you make 40K and get 4k in benefits you make 44k. If 2K is from your employer, you will most likely be paying 2K more in taxes to cover the healthcare leavin your takehome the same. The government can not make money, it can only print it.

You also pay taxes called imbedded taxes. When you buy a pizza a certain percentage of the employers tax is in the price. If the employer pays more taxes, the price will go up for you. Leaving you real spending power less.

NO. Cost will actually increase is the Government takes over healthcare. Just look at AMtrak, medicare, medicade. These programs are costing us billions every year because the government is inefficient. They do not worry about cutting costs like a private business would. Just look at the recent drug prescription plan the congress and the president enacted a few years back. It was AGAINST THE LAW for the government to bargain with the drug companies to get lower prices. How foolish is that??

If you want more information just research Canada and the UK. You will see that the quality goes down, and the availability goes down.

I doubt we would shift to socialized health care. However, it would depend on HOW it was implemented what affect it would have on paychecks. There's a tremendous amount of variety among the countries that have universal coverage programs.

depends how much you make, lower class no. Unless we went to a system like the swiss have, where everyone pays a flat rate, insurance is required, and insurance companies can only make $ on additional packages.

You are under the false impression that your employer will not have to pay for socialized medicine.
Wake up.

Get to know some basical knowledge of your confused field before taking any suggestion is a great idea. Here is great place to start off.http://health-insurance.onlinebestoffer....

No, you would see a very drastic reduction in your paycheck along with health care services too,.

If you would like to see what type of care you would receive go visit a V.A. hospital. To me it's not worth the increase no matter how big it is.

Haha Yeah right

Your Pay would be cut in half because of the increased taxes?
