What would you want your Health Care provider to do in order to securethe privacy of your medical records?

What can you do to ensure the privacy of your own
medical records? Describe three things that you and your Health Care provider can each
do.

Your health care provider and organization may follow the HIPPA laws to the T. But there are people involved and you never know if and when someone can hack into the DB. Take the case of recent celebrities whose records where looked at by no less than five different hospital personal. And there is always some clerk that is willing to sell that type of information to the tabloids for a few dollars. So your records can never be 100% secure. That is the price we pay for the freedom of the internet and a culture where information is power. Which is a good thing as far as i'm concerned, just remember nothing is 100% secure.

For one thing, you can make sure that (this pertains to US doctors) your physician's/medical providers are following the HIPAA law exactly as it is written.

NOTE: The HIPAA (Health Insurance and Portability and Accountability Act) law is also known as the "Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information"

A major goal of the Privacy Rule is to assure that individuals鈥?health information is properly protected while allowing the flow of health information needed to provide and promote high quality health care and to protect the public's health and well being. The Rule strikes a balance that permits important uses of information, while protecting the privacy of people who seek care and healing. Given that the health care marketplace is diverse, the Rule is designed to be flexible and comprehensive to cover the variety of uses and disclosures that need to be addressed.
