How can federal gov't deny me spousal rights?

If I am married in california, how can my federal employer deny me health care benefits for my spouse? Private companies that have employees here will have to.

Please no gay-bashing answers. I am looking for serious information

Federal laws are not the same as State laws. Same way with medical marijuana. CA allows it but you will get arrested by the Feds. The Federal Government does not recognize same sex marriages so they do not supply insurance to the spouse.

I'm sorry -- that really sucks. The federal govt doesn't recognize the marriage as legal and there isn't anything you can do to change it except through legislation I guess. I would imagine that the federal gov't would be the last one to change that rule with all the red tape.

congratulations on getting married though --

As has been stated here a few times, the federal government does not legally recognized same sex marriage.

Until such a time as an amendment/law something is passed on a federal level your union will not be recognized by the federal government, nor will it be recognized in any other state that does not have (legal) same sex unions.

Currently federal law does not recognize same sex marriages. So a federal employee is not currently entitled to protection under California's state law for same sex benefits.

Because a bill to accept same sex marriages, where health care is concerned, has to be passed.

u never said u were gay, so y would we gay bash, we r mature. the feds are not the private sector, so cant compare k. do it cause dey can -

not sure about this..I would seek some legal advice on this..
