What is your take on national health care, are you for or against it?

What is your take on national health care, are you for or against it?

We would be in deep trouble without it here in England.

civil_av8r, Crimcheck, and krupsk sum up my feelings nicely :)

I'm for it...

FOR it. Not all peolpe can afford to pay for health insurance at the increasingly high costs. Especially if you are single and your job does not offer health care. Most people with health insurance don't realize how much it is to go to see the doctor. Or say you get sick and have to go to the emergency room and have no health insurance because of the aformentioned info. It's RIDICULOUS how much they charge you for medication and procedures. Example. I have no health insurance because my job does not offer it to part time people. I went to the emergency room... with severe back pain... had to wait 3 hours for the doctor to actually see me, had to wait another hour for them to give me a cat scan and another hour for them to diagnose and prescribe me. In the end, I have a bill for $3,000. Tell me how that makes any kind of sense? If anyone is against this then they haven't been unfortunate enough to experience needing a doctor and not being able to have insurance.

ima fer it. anything to reform the HUGE expense out of my paycheck, for health insurance, that I rarely use would be welcome.

I am for it , but it should not be free. I think a combination of those who can afford it, combined with american tax dollars, should be enough to cover it.

I cannot conceivably imagine why a person or a nation would not want to help cure its own. Here we have an amazing ability to save lives, cure the sick, provide positivity, and we somehow manage to put a price on it. It's frankly disgusting.

I pay for my own healthcare. Better quality.

national healthcare is NOT national health coverage! One of them keeps billions and billions of dollars going into the pockets of people who never cure or heal anybody, insurance companies. Healthcare is a must, a basic need and right of all, and entirely possible with even the most basic management skill. National Healthcare coverage, is political code for those that make money off the industry to rest assured that the gravy train will keep running with government endorsement. Know the difference. Pay attention to the details. . . I am for national healthcare, just not the institutionalized profiteering that currently comes with it.

I am FOR having health care in our nation.

Do I want the government in charge of it? No.

I am completely, totally and utterly against it. Once the government gets involved they screw it all up. I read the other answers and the only thing I can add is I actually READ the national heath care proposal that Hillary was involved it. It was a mess. (I had to buy it from Congress $40) it was the size of a small phone book. It was filled with mumbo jumbo and there was a lot of coverage for the "Sovereign Nation of Indians" or some such term. There was coverage for mammograms but i don't remember anything about breast cancer treatment. The thing was cross reference in 2 or more instances per section. And it was a legislative disaster. Nation health care doesn't work. Look at Sweden, Canada, Denmark and even England.

I think its a good idea, but it would be super expensive to implement. A good compromise would be a mixed system where you only get the insurance if you make below a certain income level. The insurance companies can stay in business and the people who can afford it get premium service, while those who can't are covered by the state.

Win,win,win!

Now lets look at Canada, they have a 6-12 month waiting list. People are DYING that are on the waiting list because they cant see a doctor for months. So now you want all Americans the working man then how will anything in this country get done?to have healthcare even if they are or arent working.

I'm sorry but the working man should ALWAYS get health care before the bum who wants to leech off society. If you kill the working man in this country, how will anything get done?

I'm NOT for a national healthcare. Great, I will be working 50 hrs a week knowing shanika and her 5 kids have the same benefits as I do when she just sleeps in all day and her kids are criminals.

I would love to have health care but when the government runs programs, they seem to fall apart quickly. They start out with a great idea and hire people to run the programs who have no idea what they are doing. Look at FEMA.

Brace Center It Colshter Bussniss Center!

I'm for Health Care, Just not me having to support 20 million illegals and those who do not prioritize their lives.

Against it 100%- it's BAD for America- go to Canada and try to get an MRI for shoulder pain, see how long it takes. Then tell me you still want it!

Generally speaking, if the government is involved in it, it is very much over priced. In other words those of who pay our taxes will be paying far more than we would if it were a private endeavor. So... while I think people should be entitled to affordable health care, I don't think the government should be involved.

Socialized medicine is not the answer IMHO. All you have to do is look at other countries that do have socialized medicine and notice the quality of care and how much it costs the people who are really paying the bills.

j

I guess I am for it as so many people are without health care and this is bad. To be sick and not be able to get any care is something that should never ever happen in America.
My insurance is very very costly and something has to be done about our system.

I am for it. the gov.'t take care sof so many people out of our country more than the ones in our own country.we need to concentrate on the needs of our country .

I do not support nationalized health care. I believe in the free market system. If they want to make it more affordable, cap the payments in malpractice lawsuits.

Sure I am for national health care. Why don't I just hand over my entire paycheck to the government. I don't need it. After all they will take care of every little thing I need! Hell, I can buy a house I can't afford and they will pay for it. What a deal!

Totally against it, the quality of care would go down the tubes look how messed up it is in England and Canada. Half the rest of the world comes here for care because its the highest quality because there is a reason to succeed. Most companies have health care, just a lot of part timers aren't offered it but even now more and more part time timers can get it like at Starbucks they got all the benefits for people working 20-30 hours a week.
Places like MacDonalds doesn't have it but then they shouldn't have to most of the employees are teenagers on their folks health plan or seniors that have Medicare.
There are many medical plans set up in the states for those who do not have care, like MediCal in California. I think states should set up plans to cover people who aren't offered insurance on a sliding scale based on what they they earn.. but I dont' believe in just letting everyone get into a health plan it wouldn't be good for tax payers who are all ready burdened with45% of their take home pay being taxed!

I am Agianst national health care. Sure it will cover basic procedures but if you need to have constant medical treatment or a major operation most of that money will be coming from YOUR POCKET.

Against.
My take, short and simple: If you get sick, you pay for it.

Against it. If people want insurance they can do without cable TV and buy it themselves. My brother wants socialized health care because his work doesn't provide it, yet he still has the top dollar cable package, all sorts of xbox games, computers, etc... yet he wont buy his own insurance.

I'm against a "free for all" type healthcare system but what most MOST people don't understand is that we already DO have a free for all if you qualify. It's called medicare.
I have worked at a steelmill all my life. I ended up with COPD and CHF and after being off for a period (5 months) was award social security disability benefits.
That started a 2 year period at the end of which I was awarded medicare. Now, whenever I go to the hospital or have a medical expense I am covered up to 80% by medicare.
I have secondary health care which takes care of the rest.
So in effect my health care ain't totally free but it sure ain't bad.

I'm for it. It's needed. No one should be denied health care when they are sick or have to worry about losing their home or life savings because they are sick. It's something that everyone may need, especially if they are in an accident or something unexpected happens. Too many people just can't afford it. Maybe this isn't the way to solve that problem. Maybe we need better jobs that pay more. Maybe we need to make higher education more accessible to everyone.
I'm in favor of free higher education.

edit: We need better education in this country. I guess people are completely clueless as to how expensive health care is.
It would not be unheard of someone amassing $100,000 in medical bills in a year or two if they are really sick. How is a very sick individual going to pay for it? How would you pay for it? Maybe free health care is not the right solution. But something should be done.

edit again: Insurance companies, particularly HMOs are profiting from people getting sick. Should this be when clearly we can't afford it? I have health insurance but it's not forever. If anything happens then I or my family will be cut off. We hardly use it now. It's a real problem. It's not a big deal if you are healthy and are accident free. But it's not guaranteed. I lead a healthy life. I don't have all of the little luxuries of life. I'm almost finished with a Masters. This problem with health care (it's part of a much bigger problem) is widespread. Companies are having a tough time absorbing the ever increasing costs. We need a solution. It's very easy to say no to national health care but we first need to crunch the numbers. We need to look at the total picture. I would love to think that people with access to completel information are doing this but I doubt it.

edit again: There is a serious problem with malpractice lawsuits. Liability insurance is extremely expensive. I went to the doctor for a check up when I had barebones insurance coverage. $300 and that was over 5 years ago. This was one visit, just for a routine check up. I think I was making about $500 a week back then. It's crazy. The poor and the rich are covered. The rich can afford their own coverage. The poor get care by the government. We hardworking people pay for the poor to have insurance. But us hardworking people are struggling to pay our own health insurance and it's only going to get worse unless something is done. The only way to know what to do is to actually crunch the numbers based on historical data and to run some what if analyses about the future.

Definitely for it

we should have national healthcare and make improvements on it where other countries have failed, our healthcare system right now is ridiculous, if you cant afford health insurance you dont get help, you get stabilized in the ER and sent home
