Before my rights are taken away, can I sign my rights away to a more than fit family member?

How much say does the department have if any if I sign my rights away to a family member?

Well, you can give a family member the power of attorney, and indicate in a living will that they are to decide what they think is appropriate for you (these are in the event of your incapacitation). If you are talking about while you are still perfectly healthy, you can ask a court to appoint a guardian for you.

If you're talking about your civil liberties it won't matter if you could. When they are eventually stripped for our protection it would void the transfer.

I'm not sur that I understand the question completely but if it is concerning child custody I would contact a good lawyer and seek their guidance i believe (I'm not a lawyer) that by going through the proper channels you may be able to positively influence the outcome also the person you want to have custody should speak with a lawyer and submit a request to the court. Anything with child custody you should really speak to a lawyer.

You can sign away your parental rights but that person would probably have to have custody first.
