Can a police officer give information to my family about a ticket?

I got a ticket today, and was wondering if its legal for an officer to give information about my ticket(s) to my family members. They told me they called the police station to find out what tickets I got. Are they allowed to give that information out? It was traffic violations by the way.

I'm 28 years old, and dont feel its OK to give family members information about my tickets/summons.

Its a matter of public record.

So it sounds pretty legal to me.

Yep they can if asked. Any offense, be it motor vehicle related or criminal or civil, is public information. That is why police logs are published in newspapers.

This isn't grade school where you can't tell anyone anything..

If they say you're family, then they will generally give them information..sorry

Most traffic violations are public records. Many places make them available on court websties for anyone to look at.

It's public info. Anyone can get it.

If we assume its your car then NO, and you should go to the police station and speak to the duty sergeant for an explanation.
If its a family members car, then YES, as not only will you have a growing record of traffic violations, but also the cars details will also be on the record. So if the true owner of the vehicle was stopped for overdue fines etc, beacuse of you they have a right to know.
I also assume that you live in the UK

I am not sure, but I would guess they could, as any crime, big or small, is public knowledge.

lots of legal issues are "public knowledge" and nothing is illegal about sharing this information.

if you were in their vehicle when you got the ticket it may be MANDATORY that they inform the owner of the vehicle

besides - if you are 28 years old then why do you care if they know? its not like they can spank you or put you on restriction

A ticket is a public record and anyone has access to that information.

Yes

Heck it is probably on the PD's web site.

Lots of police departments publish a blotter with criminal activity on it.

No This information is confidential but if you slipped the guy a favour you would of got offf with a caution.....too bad little girl!!!

I would imagine that if you are under 18 then yes. Over, then no.
