How long does it take for a solicitor to sort out a deceased person's estate? (UK)?

Just wondering if anyone could advise on how long it takes to sort out a deceased person's estate in the UK.
The deceased left a will leaving equal shares between 2 people. The will was signed in front of a solicitor and this solicitor is the named executor.
There is a property left in the will (which will not be sold) and savings (do not exceed the inheritance tax threshold)
Solicitor has had all info from us and has applied for probate. What happens next and how long does it take to finalise?
Thanks in advance

It depends on how thorough he is. Probate solicitors tend to be extremely thorough and it always seems to take longer than you would expect, as they have to check up on everything and make sure that there are no unexpected assets lying around and that income tax is paid (a lot of people die not having made tax returns for years). Allow a year and be pleasantly surprised if it takes less. As this solicitor would have taken notes of all assets when drawing up the will, he should be able to clear things up fairly promptly.

Once your solicitor is awarded grant of probate he can begin to transfer ownership of the property and funds to whoever they have been left to. The total time it will take to wind up the estate varies depending on the complexity of the will but it's nothing unusual for it to take a year or so, even for a straightforward will.

they usually complete the whole business as soon as they come to the point where they cannot legally squeeze another penny out of the job. rather like leeches. as soon as they are full, they drop off.

Depends on the solicitor. My family did our own probate and it was cleared in less than six months.
