How can a deceased friends estate be confidential? |
13 months ago a very close friend died. The sheriff of the county took over his estate (after my husband petitioned for administrator) and is working with a lawyer to handle it. They conveyed to us in the beginning that they had found an addendum to his will and that he had a very large sum of money. No information has been filed at the clerks office and when calling to inquire with the Fiduciary they say that this case is not of public record. We feel we have been named in the will but are scared to ask because of the hateful responses we get when inquiring. Eventually the will has to be filed with the probate court, made a public record, and the distribution and final settlement recorded as well. You will need to contact an attorney who handles estates so that he can get to the bottom of this. Might be that the Sheriff is out to do some funny business. Get a lawyer and he will be able to find out what the will says. |
