How can you find out what happened to someone's estate after death?

I was recently told by an attorney I know that my paternal grandmother had left me her entire estate when she died. The value of the estate was said to be substantial. My father had abandoned me when I was young, but I remained in contact with my grandmother until her death. This happened about 25 years ago, is there anything I can do to find out what happened and do I have any recourse?

The estate should have been probated and if it was there would be a record of it in the courthouse where the grandmother resided, it may be too late to collect unless the estate went to the state and you could check with the state treasurers office to see if that happened, if someone else claimed the estate your only recourse would be to sue that person in civil court.~
