How long after the judge signs the final settlement for a will/estate will the funds be disbursed? |
My wife is waiting on a disbursement check from her grandmother's estate. The final disbursement form was signed by the judge on the 16th of this month. How long before she should expect the disbursement check to be mailed? (State of Florida) Additional info: Expenses have already been paid, hearings have already happened. There are no processes left in question other than the final disbursements to those named in the will. If there is a law office involved, it will depend on the size of the firm and how busy they are, as well as their normal disbursement cycle. Most lawyers will wait for the appeal period to run, just in case. Ask your lawyer or a law librarian at your local, county or state law library. I tried a quick search of Florida's website with no luck. If the final settlement results in the estate being "closed", then there is a very limited time in which the executor even has the power to make further disbursements. In Washington, for example, it is five days, after which the probate has to be re-opened. Well it all depends as a person can contest the will and also all expenses from the estate have to be paid. Hospital bills and credit card bills, etc. Generally within 90 days |
