Question re Real Estate Law/Renter's Rights |
I signed a 12 month lease beginning 4/1/07. The lease terminated, but w/out any oral agreement or anything, I continued to send rent checks and continued to live in the apt. a 1br in NYC. you had a month tom month lease. My understanding (a related issue came up for me this year) is that whether or not you owe full months or can give 30 days notice at any time is entirely jurisdiction related and depends on local laws, and perhaps on what the lease says on the topic if anything. In most states, NY may or may not be one, you would be responsible for the entire month of July. In the absence of a current written lease, you're responsible to the end of the next full month following giving notice. |
