Question about notice to vacate a rental apt in Utah? |
Hopefully someone knows real estate law... We have a month-to-month agreement with no official lease. How many days notice do I have to give before vacating? If I give my notice on May 14th, do I still have to pay for the whole month of June? Usually if you're on a month-to-month lease you need to give a 30-day notice, and if you fail to do that without the landlord's okay you can be held liable for the entire next month. Check the landlord/tenant laws in your state, which will spell all of this out, and also check with your landlord to see if he/she will let you out of the lease without paying for an extra month. Usually you must give at least a 30-day notice on a month-to-month tenancy. If you intend to vacate in the middle of a month you still must pay the rent to the end of the month, since the term is month to month and not day by day... depending on the state, it's either 20 days or 30 days.. so yeah, you're still responsible for june rent, sorry. but maybe you can work something out. |
