Are details of a deceased person's estate available on public record?

Didn't ask this correctly last time. If someone dies without a will and has their estate tied up maybe a year later, are the details of what was left published by the court or whatever body and available for public inspection? e.g. value of car, value of life policies etc

Yes, you would have to find Probate Court in the county where the person lived and had assets. Court rulings are public records.

If there is a will and it is probated by the court it will in most states be published and anyone can get information on it.

A trust is not published but it a little more expensive.

Contact a lawyer or go on the internet for wills and trusts.

When a will has been left or not left the person wishing to deal with the estate must apply to the probate registry for authorisation and supply to them all documents detailing the deceaseds property...This is the same even just to close a bank account or prove death to a creditor

You can ask to see documents held by The probate registry which are all over the UK so you will need to find the one local to you

Others are incorrect. If someone dies without a will, there is nothing to go to Probate. Probate just means proving that a will has been complied with.
Without a will, the next of kin have to apply for Letters of Administration if the amount left is over 拢5000 in order to wind up the estate. Once granted, these are public documents and are obtainable from the Probate Office in York.

Yes without a will it has to go to probate once it goes to probate and is cleared the assets would be listed and published as dying intestate (without a will) means they have to attempt to trace legal heirs. To ensure they comply with the intestacy laws.

Any person who dies without executing (making) a valid last will is known as dying INTESTATE and in that event the decease's estate is distributed according to the Law on Intestacy. Hopefully you will already be aware of the importance of making a Last Will, so that your true wishes will be made known at the time of your death
