Are Estate details publicly available after confirmation of the Estate being finalised?

A friend of mine who died last year has had information published in a national newspaper which could only have been obtained illegally or through publication. Does information like this become public record and therefore the newpapers pick it up from there?

Anyone can read a will once its gone through probate, it may have been published in an attempt to draw attention to his death so any beneficiaries who were unaware of his death can make a claim.

They may be trying to trace heirs.

A will that has passed through probate is a public document

If your late friend had relatives or family members who were involved in his estate matters, they should find out from the lawyers or bank or whoever it was that handled the estate, whether he/she could assist in finding out where the media got the info from. The only other option is to find a lawyer who will be prepared to take the case on. Newspapers don't easily disclose their sources - could it not be a person closer to your late friend who leaked info - disgruntled maybe because he/she was left out of things - just a suggestion.
