Help with Lawyers!!?

When my grandmother passed in 2005 my dad hired a crappy lawyer who charged him $1000 up font to settle the estate, the lawyer didn鈥檛 do anything and never returned are calls. About 9 months later my dad passed away. We went to a different lawyer that helped us settled the estates. We also wanted to get our money back from the crappy lawyer. We went and filed a complaint threw our local bar association, and to the supreme court. We had a hearing with the bar association and before the hearing my mom and the crappy lawyer signed a paper saying that the findings of the hearing were legal and binding. They awarded us $750 but that was in February of this year, we have never gotten any money. We called and written letters to the lawyers at the hearing but no one will help us, we even sent a letter to the president of the bar association and nothing. My question is who else can we go to? That will actually do something that will actually help us!!!

Ok. You already have a judgement. so Small Claims won't help.
Not paying a judgement in a civil matter usually has the consequence of a negative item on a credit report.

If the BAR association in your state is unwilling to take action, you can enquire of the State Attorney General's office what your next step is.

Depending on the laws in your state, you may be able to place what is commonly known as a "Mechanic's Lien" on the lawyer's house. The downside is he has to sell his house for you to get your money - although a title search will show it and (perhaps) be embarrassing.
It might also be possible to attach his wages - again, this varies from state to state.

Long story short - and this is the part that hurts - unless you state supports some criminal penalty for ignoring a judgement, the lawyer may be able to ignore you. Particularly as the amount is small - not to people like you and me - but as these things are reckoned.

Check out the local Legal Aid society, if one exists in your area. At least the advice will be free and perhaps useful.
I wish you the best of luck!

There is no help with or for lawyers. They all are the lowest form of scum.

There are WAY TOO many lawyers!!! And a good portion of them are not worth their weight in salt.

Take it to Small Claims Court, I'm sure they can help you,(just file it thru the courts, you don't need a lawyer) if you have the proof that they owe you $750., then this might be the only way you will get it. Good Luck!!

You have a legal claim against his assets. You can take your legal documents to the city or county clerk and make arrangements to file a lien against any property he owns. This will entitle you to the lien value plus interest when he disposes of the property. More than likely, he will be happy to pay off if you do that.

since you were awarded a monetary amount, you can file an oder to show cause for contempt of court and have an arrest warrent served on the scum lawyer who owes you the money..dont think he wouldnt do the same to you.. I know, one did it to my daughter over $150.. she spent 3 nights in jail over it..... good luck and be harsh to the low life.

The media.
