Should a 'No Tollerence' policy be used in todays British society?

For example: More strict sentences for crimes, gangs of kids 'owning' housing estates, Immigrants etc. Should we be leading the way as an example to the rest of Europe - to prove we're not a nation to mess with?

yes, youths today are gettin out of hand, the young hoodies should be slighty afraid of our police service, however, its the other way round these days, thy get away with anything thy like bcoz they knw thy cnt hav th good old fashiond slap around th head, something most of them need.

no
tolerance means your not trying to mess with someone's business more than you need to

Think twice about your stance on "no tolerance" policies. We have them in the U.S. and, unfortuately, it has turned bureaucrats into even more bureaucratic, mind-numbed robots. Civil servants use the "no tolerance" policies as an excuse for their lack of judgment, e.g., "I'm just following the rules..."

Another unfortunate byproduct of "no tolerance" policies is the strictness of the penalty. In some of the states in the U.S. they have a "three strikes and you're out" law. This means that if you are convicted of a third felony, then you are sent to prison. So if John Doe has two prior convictions of driving under the influence of alcohol, he will only be charged with reckless driving on his third offense because some law enforcement officials would hate to see him spend the rest of his life in prison.

My solution is for people to use sound judgment for convictions and beliefs that they have the guts to stand-up for.

Imran G do you come out with remarks like that when you are down at the DSS claiming your benefits (this applies to all seven offices you go to with different ID papers) or do you just do what all the other Imrans do and smile sweetly and say 'no speak english very good yes please yes please' with your hand out.

In answer to the original question, I think using a little discretion sometimes is the way to go

Its a good idea but the Europeans wouldnt allow it they would just say it was an abuse of human rights to expect wrongdoers to obey the law.
